A Chapter in the Life of Viola Hammer is a deeply personal reflection for Nina. After developing a cult following the release of her seminal debut album Dogsin 2000, she vanished from the music scene in the mid 00’s, stepping away from a thriving career due to the psychological abuse she suffered in her 25-year relationship.
For decades they lived and worked side by side, bound together and detached from reality, until she made the difficult decision to leave him in an effort to reclaim herself.
The following day, he took his own life.
While Nina acknowledges the sudden sense of freedom and even euphoria that came with leaving, she remains unwavering in her love for a man who struggled with mental illness.
A Chapter in the Life of Viola Hammertraces the ups and downs of this relationship, capturing its soaring highs and devastating lows. It’s an honest portrayal of domestic violence, while also acknowledging the brief moments of love and hope.
